The Real Nick House I have to make a conscious effort to listen to other black metal albums in order to avoid listening to When We Are Forgotten multiple times in a row. It's that good. "Absenz Elysium" may be my favorite black metal song of all time. The whole album evokes feelings of wandering around ancient ruins as night falls. Why isn't this band as hyped as Wolves In The Throne Room? Favorite track: Absenz Elysium.

Raemar Musically, the songs are not heterogeneous, yet somehow this album is quite multifaceted. To agree with H.L., there is an immersive, dark & powerful beauty here, & nothing pseudo about it. When listening to this, I feel as though I am in the artists' heads, exposed to the thoughts & heart-murmurs that created these pieces - floating in the very blood pulsating through their veins. Best enjoyed in dark moments of solitude for full absorption. Favorite track: Frozen in Time.

H.L. TOP 2019 #1: The album's forerunner, "Dis Manibvs" is a rare black metal masterpiece. So, I waited full of expectation for "When we are forgotten" and after endless reruns I can declare this album another masterpiece! Incredible how multifaceted it is: There are powerful, pulsating tracks, some very melancholic or characterized by a majestic slowness. Without any pseudo evilness, they are united by a dense atmosphere, catchiness, dark beauty and an epic, warm sound. Undefeated album of the year! Favorite track: Frozen in Time.

Where most of us might think that everything has been said and done in a genre, Imperium Dekadenz boldly seek new horizons: The highly atmospheric and emotionally dense soundscapes of this duo shun a simplistic tag like “Melodic Black Metal” and have done so for ages – so Horaz and Vespasian seize the moment with When We Are Forgotten and delve deep into a complex cosmos made of anger, loneliness, melancholy and pure destruction. Their musical progression is palpable throughout the album. Triumphant shadowplay ‘Bis ich bin’ lets the old school BM flames rise high and then indulges in iridescent, melodic riff cascades. Both parts of ‘My Solace’ pose as solemn monoliths framing surprisingly catchy and driven tracks such as ‘Transcendence‘. The sixth record of the duo from the Black Forest in Germany convinces with a dynamic, energetic and organic production and sounds by no means polished, but rough and dark as their home itself. In contradiction to the album`s title: This is unforgettable.
